1. You have been living in Madagascar. What was the purpose and what is your fondest memory of that time?
We spent 4.5 years in Madagascar with our two children (2 and 6 years old when we arrived).
While my husband dedicated his expertise as a forest scientist to GIZ, advising the Malagasy government on conserving and rejuvenating their invaluable natural resources, we were immersed in a country of extreme contrasts.
On one hand, we were captivated by the breathtaking beauty of Madagascar's landscapes, particularly the serene climate of the highlands. Nestled at approximately 1300 meters above sea level, the capital, Antananarivo, offered abundant sunshine without oppressive heat. Yet, this natural splendor was juxtaposed with the heartbreaking sight of rampant environmental degradation.
Similarly, our encounters with the diverse Madagascan populace revealed profound contradictions. We were deeply moved by the warmth and hospitality of the Madagascans, hailing from 18 distinct ethnic groups. However, alongside this cultural richness, we also saw the harsh reality of widespread poverty affecting a significant portion of the population.

3. What do you think is the benefit of hiring a relocation agency?
Using the services of a relocation agency means benefiting from professional expertise, contacts and a wide network to help new employees get off to the quickest and smoothest possible start in Germany.
4. What’s your best advice for your transferees?
Embrace Germany’s efficiency: While the bureaucracy may seem overwhelming, remember that it’s there to ensure things run smoothly and fairly for everyone. The process can take some time, but staying patient and proactive will pay off.
5. Interesting fact about you?
I'm an outdoor fanatic and love combining exercise and fresh air by working out with a group in a park in Berlin! Our latest challenge was to increase the number of push-ups we could do in one go. I recommend such challenges because you learn that you can do more than you think. 💪🌳
